Biography

David Curry was born in 1944 at Burton-on-Trent, Staffordshire. He was educated at Ripon Grammar School, Yorkshire; Corpus Christi College, Oxford (Hons degree in Modern History); and Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University (he was one of the first ten Kennedy Scholars). He studied International Relations under Dr Henry Kissinger.

1993 Minister of State, Department of the Environment with responsibility for Local Government, Housing and Urban Regeneration.
1992 Appointed Minister of State at MAFF
1989 Appointed Parliamentary Secretary at MAFF with responsibility for EU policies, international trade and fisheries.
1987 Elected to Westminster as Member of Parliament for Skipton and Ripon in North Yorkshire.
1979 Elected Conservative Member of the European Parliament for North-East Essex. Chairman of the Agriculture Committee 1981-84. 1984-89 Budgets Committee, including rapporteur for the EU budget.
1970-79 Financial Times. Successively World Trade Editor, International Companies Editor, Brussels Correspondent, Paris Correspondent, European Affairs Editor.
1967-70 Reporter, Newcastle Journal. Education Correspondent.

David Curry is Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Community Governanceis and Vice-chairman of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Homelessness and Housing Need. He is also a Vice-president of the Local Government Association and a Director of the British Association for Central and Eastern Europe.

He is married to Dr Anne Helene Roullet who is a sculptor. They have a son and twin daughters.

His hobbies include vegetable gardening, sailing small dinghies and being entertained by the children and grandchildren.

David Curry is a columnist for Farming Guardian and the Local Government Chronicle.

He is chairman of Dairy UK, a trade body which represents farmers, milk co-operatives, processors and traders in negotiations with Government and the European Commission on issues ranging from competition policy, industry structure, food safety and labeling, nutrition and environment.
